Recently, I received exciting news. I am a winner in the 87th Annual Writer’s Digest Writing Competition. This is a national contest, and the competition is fierce. I placed 10th in the Genre Short Story category, and I am honored to have done so well.
Since it didn’t place high enough, it won’t be published in their anthology of winning stories, but my name will appear, and I win a copy of the book. I also won a couple of small prizes. My name also appeared in the November/December issue of Writer’s Digest listing the winning authors in all the categories.
The story that made the cut was “Paradoxical Timing.” This story is a fun romantic comedy with a sci-fi time travel twist. It has a nod to Jane Austen and the Regency period.
I originally wrote this story for NYC Midnight’s Flash Fiction Contest in 2017. It came in first in its heat, so I was confident it might do well in the Writer’s Digest contest. I made a few adjustments based on judges’ comments and sent it out over the summer. Now I just need to find a publisher.
